Hi Folks,
Here's what's going one in Pack 23 this month:
LEADERSHIP TRAINING - 4/27 & 4/28
In order to meet the Boy Scouts minimum requirements, we need to have a trained leader on all overnight excursions. This is referred to as "BALOO" training. Currently, Cubmaster Dan Thiem is our only trained leader. As many of you know, Dan's time with the Pack is nearing the end as he looks to transition to Boy Scouts.
We need any potential future leaders to consider BALOO training to ensure a smooth transition. We need a new leader trained THIS YEAR. The training will occur on April 27th and 28th.
To the point: In approximately 1 year from now, Pack 23 will need to have a new Cubmaster and Assistant Cubmaster as Dan and Luuk both move on. If you have any interest in carrying the torch for the Pack, please reach out. The new leadership should be getting involved now to understand how the pack operates.
VOLUNTEER NEED: GAME / ACTIVITY FOR THE PACK - 2/21
For this years Blue and Gold pack meeting (see below) we are looking for anyone to bring forward an idea and lead a game or activity for the pack. In discussing with the Den Leaders, we felt that the pack needed some new and fresh ideas.
This doesn't need to be elaborate, we're just looking for something fresh and fun for the group of 40+ kids to participate in during this months Pack meeting. Duration should be 10 - 15 minutes.
Please contact Dan ([email protected]) if you would like to coordinate this.
BLUE & GOLD PACK MEETING - 2/21
Our next Pack meeting is February 21st at Forest Charter. Since this is our Blue and Gold Banquet, we'll be starting promptly at 6:00, with setup needing to occur prior to that time. Since centerpieces and tables need to be setup prior to 6:00, please plan to arrive at least 20 minutes early and coordinate with your Den on the setup of your table. Just a reminder the the Blue and Gold Banquet is Dinner with the Pack, along with our sponsor, the Lions Club.
You should be coordinating the food for your potluck, centerpiece, tablecloth, place setting, and cutlery with your Den. Each Den is responsible for their own food this year - including extra for the Lions Club. Reach out to your Den leaders for details
CAMP LASSEN - 7/22
Our Cub Scout Summer Camp is scheduled for Sunday July 22nd through Wednesday July 25th. That still seems pretty far away, but the council asks for initial deposits NOW and final payments by March.
The cost for camp is $200 for the scout and $200 for the adult. This includes all activities for the scouts, food and drinks. Initial deposit is $50 per person that is due if you decide to sign up at the pack meeting.
If your interested, please contact Luuk ([email protected]) as soon as possible.
OTHER UPCOMING DATES

To our Scouting Families,
At our Blue and Gold Dinner we will have the opportunity to participate in our Council’s Friends of Scouting campaign. This is our chance to support local scouting. The actual cost our Council incurs to support each boy through one year of scouting is much more than the registration fees we pay every year. On average it is $220 per boy. The Friends of Scouting campaign is a large part of our Council’s operating budget. With our help they can continue to build new camps, and provide more programs for our boys to enjoy.
As a Troop, our goal is 100% participation in this year’s Friends of Scouting Campaign. The Council is asking everyone to consider giving $220 to support one boy for a year. Some of us may be able to contribute a little more, some a little less, but know that whatever you are able contribute will make a difference. Every dollar goes to support local scouting.
Please take some time to consider what you may be able to give this year. Even if it is only $1, it will help support our boys in scouting. I encourage you to ask your friends and family to support scouting as well. Payment does not need to be made at the Blue and Gold Dinner. The Council allows you to make installment payments on your contribution. This way, $220 works out to under $20 per month. If your employer provides charitable gift matching, please remember to indicate this when you make your contribution.
Thank you for your support of Scouting. I look forward to our Blue and Gold Dinner and celebrating the success and hard work of our boys.

The spring overnighter is quickly approaching. On March 24th, we will be spending the night at the California Academy of Science in San Francisco. The cost is $44.50 for scouts and $89 for parents. There are approximately 20 spots left, but money is due at the January pack meeting.
Talk to Julie Brown and/or Luuk for further details.

As your Pinewood Derby chair this year, I’d like to welcome all young racers to the kickoff of the Pinewood Derby season, otherwise known as the
greatest race on earth!
We have a lot of potential racers this year, all vying for that elusive spot in the winner’s circle! Or maybe you just want to make a cool car and see it go. Either way, with a record number of boys it will make for a very exciting evening!
Please read through the below files for all the information you will need to get started!

Hi All,
Reminder about the Cubs-a-Caroling event this Saturday, 12/16. I know it's a busy time of year for everyone, but please try to make this one to brighten the day of some elders in the community. The schedule is as follows:
10:30 am Cascades (415 Sierra College Drive)
11:00 am Brunswick Village(316 Olympia Park Circle)
11:30 am Sierra View Manor (120 Dorsey Drive) -- Note new address, and that their facility is next to a similarly named, related facility called Springhill Manor. Don't go there.)
Thanks,

Quick reminder that we have our annual Down and Derby movie event this Saturday at Sutton Cinemas.
For those not familiar, we watch "Down and Derby" on the big screen. This is a great movie about some of those Dad's that take the Pinewood Derby race a bit too serious. The movie is this Saturday, December 2nd. Doors open at 9:30 am, movie starts at 10:00. Concessions will be available for purchase and the Pinewood Derby kits will be handed out following the movie.
The event is free to those in a Scout uniform (Cub Scout, Boy Scout, Girl Scout) and we ask for a $2/person donation for parent's or siblings not in uniform.
